5-Bromo-4-Chloro-3-Indolyl-α-D-Glucopyranoside (X-α-Glc)

5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl α-D-glucopyranoside (X-Gluc), is an indolyl carbohydrate and a Chromogenic substrate for α-D-Glucosidase that derives from an indoxyl. Upon enzymatic reaction, 5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl α-D-glucopyranoside forms indigo-blue precipitate which is used is used for the detection of α-Glucosidase positive organisms, e.g. Staphylococcusaureus and Bacillus species, and the isolation of Enterobactersakazakii. It is the alpha-D-galactoside of indoxyl whereby the indole moiety is substituted at positions 4 and 5 by chlorine and bromine, respectively.
