Guanidine HCl (Guanidine Hydrochloride)

Guanidine hydrochloride is a strong freely soluble chaotropic agent routinely used at high concentrations for the denaturation and subsequent refolding of proteins which is involved in unfolding and inactivation of alkaline phosphatase, aminoacylase and papain. It is used to inhibit heat shock protein 104 (Hsp104) adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activity in vivo. At higher concentrations, GuHCl can inactivate viruses such as Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1).
