Pepstatin A

Pepstatin A is a bacterial-derived chemotactic pentapeptide and a competitive, reversible aspartic protease inhibitor which inhibits proteases such as pepsin, chymosin, renin, HIV proteases, and cathepsins D and E. In vitro studies have shown pepstatin A exhibits inhibitory effects on HIV proteases. It has been widely used as in studies of protease mechanisms and biological functions and has been used as a therapeutic agent for inflammatory conditions such as gastric ulcer, edema, and hypertension.
