Potassium iodide (KI)

Potassium iodide (KI) is a water soluble inorganic salt composed of potassium and iodide with thyroid protecting and expectorant properties. Potassium iodide protects the thyroid from cancer causing radiation via blocking the absorption of radioactive iodine. Potassium iodide is a fluorescence quenching agent which inhibits active oxygen. It is also used as a nutritional supplement in the human diet and animal feeds.
