IPTG

IPTG (Isopropyl β- d-1-thiogalactopyranoside) is a galactose-thioglycosid (S-glycosid) and a molecular biology compound that induces the transcription of lac operon. Hence, it is used to induce gene expression under the lac operator via removing a repressor from the lac operon.
