L-Fucose

L-Fucose (6-Deoxy-L-galactose) is a naturally occurring six-carbon deoxy monosaccharide found in many organisms. It is an unconventional sugar (while it has a L-configuration, whereas all other mammalian’s endogenous sugars exist in the D-conformation) which is present in a variety of glycolipids and glycoproteins in mammalian cells. The ABO blood group antigens are the most notable fucosylated glycans in human. L-Fucose is the second common component of glycan modifications on proteins and lipids, studies proved.
