Ancymidol

Ancymidol is a tertiary alcohol and a member of pyrimidines that is produced by substitution of cyclopropyl, p-methoxyphenyl and pyrimidin-5-yl groups with hydrogens attached to the carbon molecules on methanol. It acts as a plant growth retardant via interfering with gibberellin and cellulose biosynthesis. Inhibition of gibberellin biosynthesis by Ancymidol results in a reduced internode elongation and therefore a more compact plant with a lower growth rate. Ancymidol is commercially used in the production of a wide variety of container-grown bedding and foliage plants, such as poinsettias, Easter lilies, and chrysanthemums.
